FLY BUSINESS, PAY ECONOMY MILES WITH KRISFLYER SPONTANEOUS ESCAPES THIS MARCH 2019

Updated: Feb 22, 2019

Get super flexible in March (or call in sick) for this deal. Head to Asia for the weekend for only 14,000 miles

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer runs Spontaneous Escapes from time to time with some great redemption deals. They announced last month that Spontaneous Escapes is becoming a permanent feature for the KrisFlyer program. So being a launch month, I expected something a little special from Singapore Airlines and indeed they pulled through.

Past promotions have seen reward availability limited to one or two cities, or in one direction only. This time round, there are rewards seats available pretty much across all Australian cities where Singapore Airlines operate flights to.

You can book the Spontaneous Escapes now through to the end of the month, for travel between 1 to 30 March 2019 (inclusive).

There are offers for both Business and Economy class cabins, and Krisflyer have set the following redemption discount rule:

  • 50% off Economy Saver award rates

  • Business Class redemption at regular Economy Saver rates

Here is an example of the above rule:

Sydney to Singapore

  • Economy Saver usually 28,000 || Now only 14,000

  • Business Saver usually 56,000 || Now at Economy rates: 28,000

You can find Singapore Airlines Spontaneous Escapes March list here - It has over 30 destinations on it.

Singapore Airlines Business Class Seat. 28,000 points/miles to fly in Business Class from Australia to SE Asia.

There are some great bargain redemption to be made, especially from Australia

Flying from one of the Australian cities to go beyond Singapore can bag you a bigger saving on your hard earned miles.

Lucky for us, Singapore Airlines brought out country-specific deals this time round and they are unbelievable. For example, to fly from Sydney to Hong Kong, usually 62,000 miles in Business Class and 28,000 miles in Economy, will now cost you just 28,000 miles in Business Class and 14,000 miles in Economy Class.

See the dedicated promotion page for Australian members for details on complex itineraries flying to/from Australian cities.

How to redeem this offer

  1. Log in to your KrisFlyer account with your KrisFlyer membership number and PIN at the top right corner of the page.

  2. Select ‘Book a Flight’ on your dashboard.

  3. Click ‘Redeem flights’ and select your travel details.

  4. Redemption discount will only be reflected in the booking summary panel after you have selected the flights.

Seats are limited, and redemption availability is on a first-come-first-served basis.

You can transfer Virgin Velocity Points to KrisFlyer

Since Virgin Australia is partnered with Singapore Airlines, Velocity members are able to transfer Velocity points to KrisFlyer Miles to take advantage of this deal.

Before going down this path, search the award availability on the website here and make sure the flight redemption you wish to make is available.

Some key points you need to take in consideration before transferring:

  • Transfer rate from Velocity to KrisFlyer is 1.55 to 1 (10,000 Velocity points will bag you 6,451 KrisFlyer Miles)

  • Points transferred to KrisFlyer will expire in 36 months no mater if there is activity on the account. (good idea to only transfer what is needed)

  • Transfer is always instant and you can not do a reversal

Alternative option: KrisFlyer is one of American Express transfer partners. You can also transfer your AMEX Rewards to KrisFlyer. Check with AMEX for your reward transfer rates to KrisFlyer.
