QANTAS DOUBLE STATUS CREDITS OFFER ON NOW UNTIL 22 FEBRUARY

Updated: Feb 25, 2019

Time to plan your Qantas status run for the year. Will 2019 be the year you reach Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Until Friday 22 February, you can earn double Qantas status credits on all new bookings when traveling between 25 February and 31 August 2019.

The offer applies to all Qantas domestic and international flights operated with a QF flight number in all cabin classes. QF flight numbers operated by airlines other than Qantas are excluded from this offer - including Jetstar, Oneworld and other partner airlines.

You can book as many flights as you like during this period but before you make a booking, you must first activate the offer by registering on this link.

If you are booking for multiple passengers on the same itinerary, make sure each person travelling activates this offer independently for them to earn double status.

Bonus status credits will be distributed to your account within 6 weeks after the eligible activity has been completed.

What is status credit?

Status credits determine your frequent flyer membership level, how often you fly and your loyalty to that airline. Unlike frequent flyer points/miles, you can only accumulate status credits by flying.

Holding frequent flyer status means that you can skip lines, enjoy complimentary food and drink in lounges (without having to fly premium class), gain preferential access to upgrades and award seats and many other perks.

This table from the Qantas website shows the number of status credits you’ll need to qualify or re-qualify for Qantas status:

You can explore all the benefits of having membership status here but in short:

  • Silver status provides priority check in, one complimentary lounge pass and 50% bonus points on flights earned

  • Gold status provides priority check in and premium entry (domestic only), more expansive lounge access, and 75% bonus points

  • Platinum status provides all the above, first class lounge access, priority International upgrades and a bunch of other premium perks on top

How many status credits can you earn?

The Qantas website has a handy calculator tool which shows you exactly how many credits you will earn on the selected route and ticket fare. You simply multiply that figure by 2 to calculate this double status credit offer.

Should you take advantage of this offer?

If you fly a lot for work or have been chasing status with Qantas, this is a great opportunity to fast-track your way to that next tier or to keep your status for a subsequent year. Holding Gold or Platinum status (forget about Silver) could benefit those who fly a lot especially with perks of having priority check-in, access to premium security lanes and lounge access can make work travel smoother and more enjoyable even on economy tickets.

However, it doesn't make sense spending extra cash to chase status. If you don't fly at least 3-4 international trips and have a handful of domestic trips a year, then forget about status credits. Stick with accumulating frequent flyer points because you can do this without having to fly. Once you redeem a premium class award seat with your frequent flyers, you will have access to all the perks for that flight anyway.
